Green tea lovers are going to be happy. Several studies regularly value the benefits of green tea and green tea. Some studies suggested that green tea can fight Alzheimer’s disease, but additional evidence was needed.
A study by McMaster University (Canada), published in October 2017, provides new evidence for the ability of EGCG (gallate of epigallocatechin), a green tea compound, to combat and disrupt the formation of “neurotoxic species.

Green tea is widely considered beneficial for general health and the brain. The antioxidant and detoxifying properties of green tea extracts help fight catastrophic diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.
However, scientists have never really understood how EGCG – the most abundant flavonol of green tea – acts at the molecular level and how it could be exploited in clinical treatments.
THE BENEFITS OF THE GREEN TEA COMPOUND CALLED EGCG AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S
Research by McMaster University, carried out by scientists working on Alzheimer’s disease for 15 years, and is bringing new underlying mechanisms to the EGCG.
Preclinical evidence suggests that the green tea compound called EGCG interferes with the formation of toxic assemblages (oligomers), one of the major suspects in the early stages of the molecular cascade that leads to cognitive decline in disease patients of Alzheimer’s. It should be noted that a study published in the spring of 2017 already indicated that drinking a cup of tea a day can conserve dementia.
At the molecular level, researchers suggest that EGCG covers toxic oligomers and alters their ability to grow and interact with healthy cells.
The results of this new study are the result of a decade of progress in the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) methodology and are presented in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. These claims could lead to new therapies and the discovery of new green tea medicines.

EXTRACTS OF GREEN TEA IN PREVENTION
Currently, there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, so the best hope is early intervention, which could mean using green tea extracts or their derivatives early, as early as 15 to 25 years symptoms do not occur.
Next, researchers hope to address issues such as how to modify EGCG and similar molecules in order to use them effectively, for example as a food additive. EGCG is unstable at room temperature and very clearly difficult to administer in the human body, especially in the brain.
