DIY INCA TAPESTRY OF POMPOMS
The cold and the rains of these days of January invite us to make homemade plans in our free time. If you follow us for a while, you will know that we are very fond of handicrafts and above all if they can be made in family like this one that we propose to you.
Today we bring you a do it yourself, that’s very fun and entertaining. It will also provide an original decorative touch that you can place in any corner of the house to decorate your wall. It is a tapestry of Inca-style pompoms . Surely you have all the materials at home:
- A rod or branch (in the original uses a copper rod, but it is worth any)
- Rope (raffia or dovecote)
- Thread and wool (with the combination of colors that you like)
- Glue and scissors
Do we get down to work? The first thing is to make many wool pompoms , of different colors and sizes. There are websites you can visit if you do not know how to make them. In addition to pompoms you have to make some wool tassels , it’s very simple:
To make tassels: roll enough wool over your fingers to get a roll, tie a knot between one end and the other but being careful not to undo the roll. With a piece of wool (can be of another color) make a knot of 4 or 5 turns on one of the ends of the roll and tie it near one of the ends, leaving 1 or 2 free centimeters. Now that the roll is attached, cut the end furthest from the knot so that it is shaped like a tassel.
To finish, tie several tassels and pompoms on your rod or branch with rope . Do it at different heights or following a geometric pattern (for example with a peak, saw or ladder shape). The final step is to tie rope from one end to the other of the rod and hang it. You can make your tapestry as big as you want.
