7 WAYS TO GET DISCONNECTED ON YOUR TRIP
Traveling, wherever it is, is pleasant. You can go places where you have not been before, discover new cultures and learn many new things. But sometimes it seems that we do not travel because we do not stop paying attention to what we leave behind. The mindfulness does not see it anywhere when we travel. Do you really disconnect when you travel?
Appreciate every moment to make it unique
There are people who travel and forget everything. He crosses the door with his backpack or suitcase and does not remember that he has bosses, work, house or anything that ties him up. These people are very few and it is not easy to become that way.
But why do we have to disconnect when we travel?
Disconnecting when we travel is very good to, paradoxically, connect again. It helps us to have full awareness of the place where we are, enjoys much more and appreciates everything.
I give you an example:
I left home and traveled to Goa, in India. When I arrived, I looked at my cell phone to see the route to the accommodation. Then I went to a tuk-tuk, I saw something interesting on the street and I took a picture, I uploaded it to Instagram and shared it on Facebook and Twitter. My contacts began to comment and I responded. I saw other photos that I liked and when I arrived at the hotel I thought: “I missed flying the trip”.
Everything sounds very normal, except that at that moment I did not notice the turban of the man of the tuk-tuk, I did not see the cow in the middle of the street, I did not know what the houses were like nor did I find out the five red lights that were passed in red. Nor did I appreciate the sea breeze or the jungle on the sides of the road.
I did not need to travel to keep an eye on the phone. And it’s not just about phones and social networks. It could apply to a travel guide or a thought in the office or at home. There are many things that keep us with our minds away, without paying attention to what we do.
And how to have full attention when we travel? Here I present 7 tricks or secrets that, sure, if you apply them, you will have better memories of your trip.
Tricks to get disconnected on your trips
Tricks to Get Disconnected on Your Trips:
Keep a memory, not a photograph
I like the picture. It is one of the things that I appreciate the most. Until a while ago, everything I saw and liked was photographed. Months later at home, I found myself with an empty image, without context that did not say anything to me. That’s because I forgot what happened before and after.
For a while, I stopped doing so many photographs to concentrate on living at the moment. I look at it and say to myself: “I want to remember it forever” and even if one image helps, the experience and the experience are unique and unmatched. Looking at my camera, the settings and how the photo was left made me no longer in the place.
Use Airplane Mode
I tried to travel with an old mobile phone, one of those that are used only to call with big buttons. The result was somewhat chaotic. I needed to make reservations or plan things that were impossible for me without the phone.
But this does not mean that I have to be with him all the time.
What is the trick that I invented?
Put it in airplane mode all the time and take it out only when I really need it . When I have to look for an address or I’m lost. I allow myself to be with him little time at night in the accommodation and I turn it off again.
That allowed me to spend more time with myself and with Miri while enjoying what I did more.
The best way to enjoy the present is to forget your future
Touch your fingers
As you read it. Wherever you are, facing a lake, a mountain or a square in the middle of a city. Stop for a moment, close your eyes, join your middle finger (or greater) with your thumb and without looking at them, begin to rub them slowly. Feel that gentle touch and think about everything your body feels and that you usually do not pay attention.
After a few seconds, open your eyes and look around you. Try to perceive each of the things that surround you. You will notice how your level of contact with the environment is much deeper.
Don’t do anything
This is one of the things that I like the most. It is not very rare to hear the ads that they say “Take advantage of your free time and …” If it’s my free time, why do I have to fill it with things? Where is my vital minimalism?
Do not do anything. At least for a while, an afternoon, a day, do not do anything. Do not run to get to that museum or to be at that time in such a place because someone tells you what it is and is trending topic in I do not know what social network. Enjoy the pleasure of swimming.
Do not think about going back
It is very normal to listen to people who are traveling or enjoying a moment of tranquility that says: “What a shame it is that tomorrow I will have to go back home and then to work”. It seems that instead of enjoying the moment we worry about what will come.
The best way to enjoy the present is to forget your future. That will be a problem for the person of tomorrow.
If you think about the things you do not want to do, at work, housework, etc, you are already doing it. Enjoy and just focus on the moment.
Stop a moment
The last time I traveled to Paris I went to the typical places but I also stopped to rest and watch people as if it were a place. I went to a plaza, sat down and did nothing but watch the people, the birds and how the trees moved with the air.
I remember it as a beautiful day.
On that trip, I did more things but you know what? That moment is the one I remember best, every detail, every moment, almost as if it had been a week ago.
Rest if you want
It seems that when we travel we are obliged to fulfill a series of milestones and that if you do not make them you are less a traveler or you do not know why you went so far. I think it’s a big mistake. We are not obligated to anything, much less to do things simply because we have to cross them off in a list.
If you are at home, hotel, hostel or whatever: you are having a good time and do not want to leave you have to do one thing: do not leave. The only place you should go to is the one that makes you happy and has a meaning for you.
